Beorc has a lot of layers behind it at this point, to Reyson. He doesn't like that he keeps having to say human, which is rude, and nobody here is actually aware of how rude it is because he's not going to lead off every single casual acquaintanceship with the ugliest parts of his home's history, when most of the people here would not even believe him. The overview is that it is the proper and polite way to call the people with no animal features.

In what is possibly an act of very subconscious mirroring, Reyson takes a subtle nose in to make sure "the old fashioned way" isn't, say, beating or starving the poor nervous creature into submission. He doesn't want to be culpable in animal cruelty. That's all he cares to look for, and finding no ill intentions, does the mental equivalent of averting his eyes. It's very rude to do this kind of thing, after all! He can't even apologize without admitting to it...
